Looking back on 2017…

This is the first in a short two-parter blog post looking back at 2017, and looking ahead to 2018

As the wheels hit the tarmac at Dublin Airport the end of 2017 is in sight. This has very much been a year of two halves for me - the first 6 or so months in Dublin and the latter 5 and a half in New York. In fact it seems like a lifetime ago since I was living in Dublin, eating Bunsen burgers and getting stuck in M50 traffic.

New York Christmas
Snowy December in NYC

The year got off to a great start after a securing a number of new digital marketing projects for Ubikwitty. In January I was offered the opportunity to lecture the Advanced Spreadsheet Modelling module in DCU for the second semester. At the same time I was finishing off the MBS degree in the IMI - which was the culmination of a 3 year process of lectures, assignments, and long days in Dundrum. 'Flat out' doesn't even begin to describe how busy this period was.

As that finished out in March I started planning to move to New York in the summer. While it wasn't an easy decision, it was a long-term goal and I knew that this was the closest I was going to get to perfect timing. Moving over mid-way through July, New York was a breath of fresh air (figuratively speaking - New York and fresh air have very little in common).

Brooklyn Bridge
From Brooklyn Bridge...

The days were sweltering hot as I started to explore the city and find accommodation. It almost felt like a vacation at first - everyday brought something new and exciting. Six weeks later I was all set up with a place to stay and a new role. Since then the time has flown by and it now it truly feels like home.

I even managed to squeeze in a quick vacation to California in October. Doing a road trip between San Francisco and LA was on my bucket list for a long time so it was great to tick that off. Needless to say it did not disappoint!

Golden Gate Bridge San Francisco
... to the Golden Gate Bridge.

All in all it has been a great year - stay tuned for the follow-up post looking ahead to 2018 early in the new year!

Merry Christmas,

  1. Hello ,

I saw your tweets and thought I will check your website. Have to say it looks very good!
I’m also interested in this topic and have recently started my journey as young entrepreneur.

I’m also looking for the ways on how to promote my website. I have tried AdSense and Facebok Ads, however it is getting very expensive. Was thinking about starting using analytics. Do you recommend it?
Can you recommend something what works best for you?

I also want to improve SEO of my website. Would appreciate, if you can have a quick look at my website and give me an advice what I should improve.
(Recently I have added a new page about FutureNet and the way how users can make money on this social networking portal.)

I wanted to subscribe to your newsletter, but I couldn’t find it. Do you have it?

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Jan Zac

    1. Hi Jan

Thanks for your comment! I haven’t set up a newsletter yet – that’s one of the plans for 2018.

I’ll respond to the other questions directly through email.

Good luck with the venture 🙂
